Frequently Asked Questions

  • You're welcome to book with either Jessica or Lily. We're both happy to support you. If one of us feels like a better fit based on our profiles, trust your instinct and book with that person.

Jessica specializes in helping people whose nutrition concerns are connected to their relationship with food, eating behaviours, body image, or emotional well-being. As both a dietitian and counsellor, she can support you with nutrition concerns as well as the emotional and psychological factors that often accompany them.

If your primary goal is nutrition support and your relationship with food isn't your main concern, Lily may be the best fit.

You can also work with both of us. Some clients begin with one practitioner and later decide to add support from the other, depending on their needs.

Still not sure? We'd be happy to help. Email us at support@shiftnutrition.com or book a free 10-minute consultation, and we'll help you decide which option is the best fit for you.

  • It's completely understandable to want to feel better in your body, and many of our clients come to us feeling uncomfortable, frustrated, or concerned about their weight. You're not alone in that.

At Shift Nutrition, we don’t focus on weight loss as a goal, but that doesn’t mean we ignore your experience. While we don’t focus on weight loss as a goal, we do help people make sustainable changes that support their health, like improving energy, digestion, blood sugar, cholesterol, and more. We take a weight-inclusive and non-oppressive approach, meaning we focus on supporting your overall health, well-being, and relationship with food rather than trying to control your body size. This approach is rooted in the principles of Health at Every Size® (HAES®), which recognizes that health is not determined by weight alone and that bodies naturally come in diverse shapes and sizes.

Rather than prescribing restrictive diets or rigid rules, we help you build sustainable, nourishing habits that support your physical and mental health. Sometimes weight changes as a result, and sometimes it doesn’t—but our goal is always to help you feel more at ease in your body, more connected to your needs, and more confident in how you care for yourself.

If you're feeling conflicted about wanting to lose weight but are also curious about a more compassionate, respectful approach to health—we get it. You're welcome here.

  • Yes if you have benefits for Registered Dietitians, you can submit both of our services for reimbursement. If you have coverage for Registered Clinical counsellors, you can submit Jessica’s services for reimbursement

  • This is very individual. A more complicated issue can take several sessions. And others can be just a couple of sessions. If however, you are limited in time or money for this, please let us know as we can supplement work with outside reading and other materials to support this work. We would rather see you just for 1 or 2 sessions, than none at all!

  • If you want one - yes! If you don’t want one - NO! We work to build competency and trust, and sometimes meal plans can be helpful as an short-term tool facilitate this. And for other people they’re tired of being told what to eat, so a meal plan is a horrible idea. Whatever you need, we can support that.

Feel better in your body!
